Sometimes we come across special sermons that you know others need. Below are a list of sermons that are relevant in the times we are living. Our hope is that you will take the time to see for yourself.

From Desert Cove Church

Please come joins us here is a list of all our sermons (Most recent to the past uploads) —Desert Cove Church

“Connecting Faith”

“And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.” (Mark 5:25-34)

In a prior sermon, we learned of a woman who had a choice to make even if she would get in trouble for that choice. What was this choice and how did it affect her? Jesus always knows the one that needs Him even in a crowd. How did He know who touched Him in a throng of people? Do we sometimes think that God does not hear us because we are unworthy to come to Him? He hears us, because He knows those that are His (2 Timothy 2:19). Join us as we revisit this woman who was an outcast for 12 years.

“Building on the Rock”

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25)

When we accept Jesus it is not the end of it, because anyone can say they accept Him but do they know Him. Jesus said you will know them by their fruits (Matthew 7:16-18,) but what does that mean? Have you ever met someone who said they were a Christian but in your mind you thought is that really how a Christian acts? We think going to church is enough and we let the world take over the rest of the week. Do we show Him in every aspect of our lives? We should.  What is your building like?

“Faith in Action”

“And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.” (Mark 5:25-34)

What would you do if you knew trouble could come at you if you were doing the right thing? Would you do it anyway or not do it. Jesus said those who seek to save their life will lose it, but those who lose their life for His sake will gain it (Matthew 16:25). The woman in the above verse had a choice to make. She knew Jewish laws and had been living by them, but Jesus was coming! How far would you go to reach Jesus?

“Deception in the Last Days”

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

Jesus was speaking about the last days to His disciples close to the time when He was going to die in our place. Matthew 24:4-5 reads, “And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Notice he didn’t say a time when He would return He said Listen, let no man deceive you. There will be many that will come in Jesus’ name, but are they truly with Jesus. The above verse has this statement, “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof:” But what does that mean to us today? Join us

“Choose Love”

“Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and He is the Saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it;That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. (Ephesians 5:21-27)

Many people have a hard time with these words. Submitting oneself to another? Hmmm. But do we really understand what these verses really mean? Think about it, if Jesus truly comes first in your lives, you and your spouse should have love and respect for each other. Love is a choice it always has been. Jesus died on the cross just for the chance that you will come to Him with love in your hearts. He knew there would be those that reject Him but He came for us anyway. Matthew 22:37 says, “Jesus said unto him, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” When we have that kind of love, He gives us the ability to love like He does. Join us as we discuss this subject further.

“Where Are You Now?”

“I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me. In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted. I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah. Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak. I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times. I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search. Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more? Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore? Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah. And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.” (Psalm 77: 1-10)

When we were children, we seemed to be fearless and trusting, didn’t we? Jesus says we should become like a child to enter the kingdom of heaven. But somewhere and at some time as we grew up, we became less trusting and sometimes fearful. The Lord says He is always with never forsaking us, but do we really believe that? When we are going through so much trouble in our lives, do we sometimes think we have been abandoned? Today’s verse tells us that we are not alone in this thinking. Asaph, one of David’s musicians, seems to be having a very hard time in his life and his “soul refused to be comforted.” Join us as we explore this Psalm and that the answer is what it has always been—we are never alone in our struggles.

Do Not Be Afraid

“But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.”      (Daniel 5:20-21)

Look around the world today. Do we see what is happening? The world has changed dramatically has it not? When we become frightened of the unknown, things can happen that change our lives. We may take a road that leads us on a path to our destruction or we can take the right path. It has always been our choice. Daniel was taken prisoner and still made choices that pleased the Lord. He was given visions for what was to come and one was of what was going to happen to the king. The king became prideful but finally realized the power of our God—“He appionteth…whomsoever He will.” God does not want us fearful. Our strength comes from the Lord through anything that the devil can throw at us, after all nothing is impossible for Him (Matthew 19:26).

“The Woman at the Cross”

“And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.”

Do we sometime miss the significance of what Jesus did for us? Jesus was beaten and mocked and then, died for us in the cruelest manner ever—the cross. Have you ever thought about who was at the foot of the cross on that day?  There were a few that were named. When we come to Jesus, we are saved by what He did for us that day. We hope you will join us.

“Broken Cistern”

“Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit. Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the Lord. For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.” (Jeremiah 2:11-13)

Jesus says, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any pluck them out of my hand.”  (John 10:28).  This is a wonderful promise! Nobody can pluck us out, but what about us. Do we sometimes choose to leave His hand? In today’s verse, the people knew God but have chosen to follow other gods, other idols have taken the place of God. Jesus gives us living water (John 4:14). What is our idol? Is there something making the cistern in our lives leak the precious water that Jesus gives us?  Join us as we explore this subject.

“How Can I Forgive?”

“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:31-32)

Forgiveness is hard for us to do sometimes, yes? When someone treats us badly we want to push back and give as good as we got. But is that what Jesus teaches? He is forgiveness, therefore; He teaches us to forgive one another. Why? It is because when we are unforgiving, we can become bitter and resentful, which are things that separate us from our God. To be able to forgive is a gift from God and when you have this gift, you can find the peace that may have been beyond your grasp. How can I forgive? With Jesus in our hearts, we can. Join us for today’s sermon.

“What Do I Do Now?”

“Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” (Act 2:37-38)

Prior to the above verse, these individuals had crucified Jesus. They were so caught up in the moment, they did not take time to find out just who it was they were crucifying. Basically this was a mob mentality. Do we sometimes get so caught up in the moment that we miss the voice of the Holy Spirit telling us that we are on the wrong path? “What do I do now?” That is the question and in this sermon you will find the answer and the answer is always the same. Jesus.

“One Night with the Lions”

“Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee. And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.” (Daniel 6:16-17)

We recently had a wonderful Vacation Bible School and it reminded us that our Lord has infinite power. “And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible” (Mark 10:27).  Jesus calmed the seas with just a word (Mark 4:39).  So do you think He can control the animals, after all He created them. Join us as we explore the use of animals to show us that we are in His hands and He can deliver us, always.

“Real Freedom”

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.”

(John 8:31-31)

Land of the free… What is your favorite time during the fourth of July? What does it mean? Many may be able to say we are free because our forefathers fought for our freedom to become a separate nation, but what about spiritually? Jesus came to set us free, but free from what? Do we really know? In today’s world, freedom for one may cause the removal of freedom for another. Join us a find a deeper message—the “real freedom” offered by our Lord and Saviour.

“The Price of Grace”

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

The price of grace—for us it is a gift. It is a gift of God through His Son Jesus Christ. Do we take it for granted or cheapen it? In the Old Testament, there are verses that show that some people were bringing in sacrifices that had no meaning to them anymore. Works over relationship with God became more important. As a matter of fact, they were buying their sacrifice before going into the temple. Some may have thought just let me get this done and I am good for another day. But just what was that lamb signifying? They had forgotten. And that is why they did not recognize Jesus when He came. Will we recognize Him when He comes? Remember there will be great deceivers that, if possible, the very elect will be deceived (Matthew 24:24). Have you ever thought deeply on the “price of grace”? Maybe we should because for Jesus, it cost Him everything—His very life and He did that for us.

“The Life”

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” (John 14:6)

Just as there are multiple words for the word love in the Greek language, there are different words used for life. Jesus speaks about giving us life more abundantly. So what type of life was He speaking about? When the disciples saw the Word of Life manifested, what type of life were they describing. We cannot navigate this world on our own, although, the world wants to tell you that you can. Oh, you can feel that you are doing well in this world all by yourself, but is something missing? This is the last of the three part series and we hope you will join all three which is all about Jesus being the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We all have a choice to make and Jesus is our only way.

“The Truth”

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

When two actions or ideas are not consistent with each other; it is called cognitive dissonance. Nowadays, the truth seems to be pushed to the side or it may be that my truth is not your truth but is that the way the Bible interprets truth. Jesus is our truth. He tells us so in the verse above. In Revelation, His name is Faithful and True (Revelation 19:11).  God cannot lie (Titus 1:2). People want to change truth to suit their own wants. Some say, since man wrote the Bible the Bible cannot be the whole truth, but Jesus said, when He prayed for us, “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word;” (John 17:20). Maybe some individuals become so removed they do not know what truth is any more or maybe they become so involved with works they forget the truth. The Pharisees did not recognize Jesus for this reason. Join us as we explore the “truth” of Jesus.

“The Way”

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

Have you ever had a day in which something happens and you just now it will not be a good day, a day in which you want to crawl back in bed and start over? Chances are we all have at some point or another.  In this sermon, we come to understand that the disciples didn’t get what Jesus was trying to say to them. As a matter fact they missed a crucial point that Jesus said to them about who was to betray Him, which left Peter speechless later on when Jesus was speaking to him. He may have thought it would be him. Do we sometimes miss the crucial points that will save our lives through our Savior? Join us as we discuss the only “Way” to make it through this fallen world.

“And God Spoke”

And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.Thou shalt have no other gods before me.Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.”            (Exodus 20:1-6)

When God speaks things happen. God spoke and the heavens and the earth were formed. Jesus said many times that what He was doing would be fulfilled because “It is written” and men were led by the Holy Spirit to write about Him throughout the whole Bible. In Exodus we see that God spoke to the Israelites in the wilderness and then He wrote them with His own finger later.  God wanted them to understand Him. And as we understand Him, we get to know Him and want to have a relationship with Him. He loved us so much that He gave us His only Son (John 3:16). He has always wanted to dwell with us. 2 Corinthians 6:16 says, “And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Isn’t that a relationship? It most definitely is. Join us in a further study of growing a relationship with our God.

“Triumph to Trial”

“And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there. But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.”

Have you ever had something that went so right in your life and then the next minute things were not going so right? Do we feel let down? Do we ask God why is He letting this happen to us? Isaiah 55:8 states, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.” Sometimes we will never understand the why, but at other times, when we look back God gives us understanding of what He was doing at that specific time in our lives. God says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” In this sermon, we will explore Elijah’s journey from “triumph to trial.”

“Is Now the Time?”

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Perhaps you have heard this from someone before, “As long as I know Jesus, it does not matter what I do.” Did you know that this answer is not far from what the Nicolaitanes believed? They believed that they could freely take part in sin because the law of God was no longer binding. But Jesus said, “But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.” (Revelation 2:6). Then later, the doctrine crept into the church (Revelation 2:15). The world is not getting better, and the end is near. We have an enemy that wants us separated from God and it does not matter how he does it. How do you hurt a father?  By taking away his children and that is the devil’s goal. We cannot fight him on our own. We need Jesus.

“Is Enough, Enough?”

“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.” (John 5:39-40)

Children ask “why” a lot don’t they? Are we any different? After all we are a curious people. Sometimes this curiosity can get us into trouble, and we can trace it back to the very beginning. The devil always seeks to control our minds, after all, how do you hurt the Father? It’s by taking His children away. As you will hear in this sermon, sometimes the “why of things can lead to doubt and separation from God.” However, there is an answer—Jesus.

“Evidence of the Holy Spirit Pt2”

“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.” (Isaiah 11:1-4)

In the previous sermon, “The Spirit of Truth Is Come,” we discussed the Holy Spirit and what He does for us. God wants to give us His Spirit (Romans 5:5; 1Corinthians 2:12; Luke 11:13; 2 Corinthians 1:22, etc.). The Holy Spirit is a gift, meaning we have to accept the gift, so why do we sometimes block this gift of His Spirit? Are we sometimes too stubborn to listen? And what is the evidence of the Holy Spirit? Join us and come find out.

“Learning to Stand”

“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” (Ephesians 6:13)

We all know how to stand but do we know how to stand when we are attacked from the outside? Will we stand when things get out of control or will we crumble like a house of cards when one strategic card is pulled? The devil knows all the tricks and he knows just which card could be our downfall. Exodus 15:2-3, “The Lord is my strength and song, and He is become my salvation: He is my God, and I will prepare Him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt Him. The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name.” Moses sang to the Lord regarding His protection when Pharaoh came after him and was drown in the sea. Do we sometimes miss reaching out to our Lord when we are in the midst of the attacks that come our way?  Join us as we discuss how defeat a defeated foe when the war comes to our door and just what is required help us STAND.

“Faith Amidst Doubt”

But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.” (John 20:24-25)

Perhaps you have heard the phrase “Doubting Thomas.” But was he really in doubt? Were you aware that the belief in God is decreasing over the years? Many are unsure there is a God and if this trend continues it could be that many will cease to believe in God altogether. It is hard to understand when we know God and have accepted Jesus in our heart. Doubt—where does it come from and does it mean that we have separated us from our Lord? Or is it when doubt continues and changes our hearts that is the issue. Join, today, us as we explore this concept.

“The Spirit of Truth Is Come”

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” (John 16:7-13)

Have you ever wondered about the Holy Spirit and what He does for us?  Who is He? To make it through this fallen world we must know Him as well as knowing our Heavenly Father and Jesus our Savior. Why? Isaiah 44:6 states, “Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and His redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.”  So we know that Jesus and God the Father are One, but what about the Holy Spirit? The answer lies in the first verse given but, also, we will find that the Holy Spirit was there from the beginning. Join us as we delve deeper into the Spirit that was given to us by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

“Unqualified Heroes”

“And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”And the Lord said unto him, “Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.” (Judges 6:15-16)

Have you ever been tasked with a job that you felt you could not do? That they seemed to have picked the wrong person for the job? Many have felt the same way. How about when the Lord taps you on the shoulder and says I want you to complete this task for Me? Do we sometimes make excuses or ignore it because it is something that seems too difficult? We are not alone in this feeling. When asked, Moses said, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”(Exodus 3:11) or this one “Then Moses said to the LORD, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”(Exodus 4:13)There are many examples of individuals who felt they were unqualified, and it took some time for them to realize that when Our Lord asks something from us, He does not leave us hanging. He is the One that qualifies us for the job! Join us as we explore Gideon’s response to our Lord’s “ask”.

“The Touch”

“Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.” But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.” (Luke 8:45-46)

Are you familiar with the story above? A touch! That is all it took for this woman to be made whole. What does whole mean in this and other stories? There is just so much more to this story. For instance, did you know that this was the place that only one man was healed before Jesus was sent away? How did she, a woman that was an outcast because of an illness, come have such faith that she knew all she had to do was touch the hem of Jesus’ garment and she would be healed? Jesus said “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me” (John 12:32). All we need do is look (or touch the hem of His robe), have faith, and we will find such wonders. He will make us whole! Have you been touched recently?

“Spiritual Warfare”

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:1-12)

Are we so overwhelmed at times that we wonder where God is and if He cares, after all He promises to never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5)? When we get past whatever turmoil we are going through, do we then look back and realize He was there all along? Why do we not realize it while we are going through the trouble? The answer is in the above scripture. It is because we are wrestling with a very powerful foe that we have no hope of defeating on our own. Jesus is our Champion. He won the war for us. “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler (Psalm 91:4).” Join us as we take a closer look at the “Must have” equipment in our lives—The Whole Armor of God!

“Twenty-five in Twenty-four”

“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:3-5)

In the previous sermon we learned there was a sign of a Redeemer to come for us. This sermon expands on those prophecies. What do we think of when we hear the word “Prophecy?” Do our minds automatically go to the Book of Revelation? There are many prophecies in the Old Testament as we learned previously.  Prophecies of a Saviour that would come and save His people from their sin (Matthew 1:21); the sins we have accumulated and will accumulate in the future (1 Peter 3:18). He took it all on His shoulders and died in our place (Philippians 2:8). This is a love so outrageous it is difficult to fathom. Join us today to discuss 25 prophecies fulfilled in 24 hours, and only One, Son of God and man, fits the timeline—our Jesus!

“Prophecies Fulfilled”

“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)

The Lord gave us a very important sign many years before He was born—our Redeemer would be born of a virgin and would be given a name above all names. Philippians 2:9-11 states, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” What are some of the other areas in the Bible that show this truth? Are the prophecies accurate? And when we find they are accurate, what will we do with that information? The whole Bible is about Jesus and if we choose to seek Him with all that is in us (Matthew 22:37-38) He will show us the truth for Jesus is our truth (John 14:6) and He will reveal Himself to us. Then we need to share!

The Promise

“That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 4:14-17)

What did Jesus mean when He said, “…the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand?” Do we really know? Well, what took place right before this? Jesus was baptized and led into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil (Matthew 3:14-4:11). When Jesus was at His weakest, the devil came to tempt Him. What is significant is that Jesus did not get into a battle of wills but only quoted scripture to defeat the enemy. A time is coming such as never was seen in the history of humanity (Matthew 24:21). Join us as we discuss Jesus—the only One who can guide us through. He is the only One who can.

“Our Thoughts”

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

Have you ever thought about where our thoughts can lead us? Did you know there have been research studies on the thought process and what people think about and how they perceive the world?  Do we sometimes make assumption only to find out what we thought was not actually what happened at all?  Jesus said, “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts…” (Matthew 15:18).  So what did these studies show? Proverbs has this to say “Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”  Join us as we explore how our thoughts are a big part of who we are and who we become.

“Stewards of the Mysteries of God”

“And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.” (Luke 21:1-4)

What comes to mind when we think of stewardship?  For most people it is money or possessions. But is that all stewardship is about? What are God’s thoughts about stewardship? In this sermon, we will explore the concept that stewardship is not just about the stuff we have—it  is, oh, so much deeper and it starts in the heart. Perhaps you have heard the heart is deceitful above all things (Jeremiah 17:9). We can make ourselves believe it is all about one thing but it is not. That is why the heart plays such a big role in stewardship, and it is the reason God wants our whole heart (listed first in Matthew 22:36-40). From the heart comes love and what we do with that love can have an impact on stewardship. Join us today.

“Be Patient”

“Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.” (James 5:7-8)

Why did James write the verse above? What was happening? If we go back to the beginning of James we realize the people had lost their way. Their focus was not on Jesus anymore but on themselves. Isaiah 53:6 states, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” So what happens to sheep that lose sight of their Shepherd? They get lost and the enemy will pounce. The book of James reminds us that we can do the same. Taking our eyes of Jesus is a matter of life or death and He says to choose Life because He is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6)—Life everlasting through Him. (Deuteronomy 30:19). Join us as we discover how James was addressing how to stay grounded in Christ.

“New Chapter”

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” (John 3:36)

Cognitive dissonance is a mental conflict that occurs when your beliefs don’t line up with your actions.  Are there times like that for us? For instance, do you find yourself asking for forgiveness over and over for the same sin? Why? Do we doubt that Jesus cleansed us for that sin the first time we came to Him on our knees in true repentance? The devil uses many weapons against us and doubting Jesus is one of his best weapons—after all that is what happened to Adam and Eve. Join us as examine this concept through the lives of the Israelites.

“Life Unexpected”

“The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.” (Acts 3:13-15)

If we go back and read what was happening in Acts 3:1-7; we find that there was a certain man that was brought to the “gate of temple which is called Beautiful.” It reminds me of an older song. The first verse says:

Take me into the beautiful
Won’t you take me back again
With a love unexplainable
Come and fill up this dry land
Let it open our eyes
To see a world we’ve never seen
Let it open our hearts up
To feel You inside of us
You’re here inside of me

Do we go to church expecting perfect people? Who is church really for when we think of the man that was placed outside the temple? Isn’t church for broken people? Yet this man was not allowed inside. Why?  Join us as we explore this situation and what was happening.

“Right Time, Right Place”

“But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” (Galatians 4:4-7)

We can depend on God.  Nothing happens without His say so. If we study the Bible, we will find that prophecies have been fulfilled just as the Bible promised it would. From the plan of salvation from the very beginning to the prophecy of a Savior to the birth, death and resurrection of our Redeemer, the fullness of time came to completion. But was that the end? No, it was just the beginning, because He promises to come for us. And if the fullness of time was fulfilled to bring us our Savior, then you can count on Him coming for us in the clouds of glory just as He has promised!

“Missing Piece”

“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” (Philippians 4:11)

Contentment. It is not out of reach, but for some it is the hardest thing to come by. Do we try to keep up with the Joneses because we think; if we only have what they have we will be happier? Are we constantly looking for things or people that we think are the answer to the fulfillment we need in our lives only to find that things don’t make us happy and people can disappoint us? The verse above gives us a clue in how to be content in our lives. Join us as we explore this concept and what it takes to attain true contentment.

“Rejoice”

“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4)

Have you ever lost anything? Did you find it annoying? What about losing your sense of joy because let’s face it life is hard? Did you know the Jesus promises you joy? John 15:11 says, “These things I have spoken unto you, that My joy might remain in you, and your joy might be full.” And that is not the only time He mentioned His joy that He gives us. Paul says in Romans 12:12, “Rejoicing in hope patient in tribulation; continuing instant prayer.” Instant prayer meaning talk with Jesus throughout the day, even in the hard times, and He promises to bring you through. Join us as we discover Paul’s thoughts regarding rejoicing.

“Pure Joy”

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.” (James 1:2-3)

If you have not seen the previous sermon entitled “The Lord’s Prayer for Us,” we encourage you to do so.  In this sermon, we will expand upon John 17:3 and what it really means to know our Father and Jesus. In the previous sermon, we find that God the Father and Jesus are One and He prays for us to be one with Them. To be one with them means a special relationship. Do we know we have that special relationship? How can we be sure?  Join us as we examine what it means to really know our Savior.

“The Lord’s Prayer for Us”

“These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” (John 17: 1-3)

Have you ever felt alone even when you are surrounded by people?  What about spiritually? Have you ever felt far away from the presence of Jesus even though His promise was to never leave you nor forsake you (Matthew 28:20 and Hebrews 13:5)? Have you ever read John 17?  Jesus prays for us to not be alone that we may be one with His Father and Him. If you read the verse prior, Jesus says that in Him we might have peace even through tribulation (John 16:33).In this sermon, we will discover just who was on His mind right before He was betrayed into the hands of His enemies.

“What’s My Part?”

“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 12:1-4)

Spiritual Gifts, what are they? Well if we look further down in the verses, we find that they are all coming from God and not one is a minor gift. Each has a roll to play and all of it comes together as God’ church. We just need to be willing. We need to say send me Lord and even if it is out of our comfort zone He equips us through the Holy Spirit. Join us as we explore the subject—Spiritual gifts.

“Weak or Meek”

“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5)

What comes to mind when you think of the word meekness? Some would say it is a form of weakness, and that if you are weak, others would walk all over you. But is that what meek really means? We know that the meaning of words change over time. Is the word “meek” one of those words? We have examples in the Bible of meek individuals, but were they really weak? James 1:21 says, “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted Word, which is able to save your souls.” Let’s explore the word “meek.” Joins us today!

“Only One is Good”

“And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.” (Matthew 19:17)

Are there times we say to ourselves we are good? Do we try to “fix” others so they can be “good,” too? Well, if we look at what Jesus said, there is only One who is good and that is God. Romans 3:23 says “…all have sinned…”  Before we look at others, we need to look at ourselves before attempting to help others and sometimes we will realize that there is a lot more “fixing” we need before that happens. Join us today to hear our Lord’s words on this subject.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)

“Manna”

“We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic; but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!” (Numbers 11:5-6)

Can you imagine a world where showing up was enough? Kids feel bad for losing s everyone gets a trophy. We have a “me” generation and why is that? Maybe you remember a time that you brought home what you thought was a wonderful gift and all you heard was “why didn’t you get the other one with all the bells a whistles?” Do we sometimes forget that it was a gift to begin with, and that we should be grateful we even got it in the first place? There is nothing new here.  This sermon will take you back the when Israel was freed and all the miracles it took to free them, but they seem to forget. They forget those miracles. They forget that God is with them day and night—they forget…Do we?

“Do I Have Time?”

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

There’s a song that goes through my mind when I remember this sermon’s words. The song is called “Are You Ready for Jesus to Come” and it starts out “The theme of the Bible is Jesus, and how He died to save men. The plan of Salvation assures us, He’s coming back again.” The Chorus is a series of questions:

“Are you ready for Jesus to come?

Are you faithful in all that you do?

Have you fought a good fight?

Have you stood for the right?

Have others seen Jesus in you?

Are you ready to stand in your place?

Are you ready to look in His face?

Can you look up and say, This is my God!?

Are you ready for Jesus to come?”

We invite you to attend our service, today.

“Guilt and Shame”

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

Guilt—when we even hear the word, what comes to mind? We are probably remembering something from our past right now. Perhaps you’ve heard the saying “we are all guilty of something” and that may just be true. It seems guilt is part of being human after the fall. Jesus forgives us but Satan uses this guilt to bring it to the forefront. Have you ever asked the Lord to forgive you, again, for something He already had when you asked Him the first time?  The one thing that we cannot seem to get past ourselves because the devil’s lie says we are not worthy of forgiveness. Do we trust what Jesus did for us on the cross? He took our guilt and shame and made it His, and when we come to Him in true repentance—He forgives.

“Mirror, Mirror”

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves, For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straight way forgetteth what manner of man he was.” (James 1:22-24)

Have you ever thought what it would have been like for the ones to have access to a mirror the first time? James the brother and follower of Jesus described a mirror. What do we see in the mirror? Do we see what we want to see and then walk away or like the person James describes, do we look in the mirror and see what needs to be change soon forgetting when we walk away? Or do we not want to look in the mirror at all, because we don’t want to see what is shining back at us? All three questions above are dangerous scenarios, because the first question is relying on self and we know our heart is deceitful (Jeremiah 17:8). The second is that we see that we need to make changes but the worldly distractions make us forget what we know we need to do. The last is just as dangerous. We know we need to look in the mirror but, we are either afraid of what we will see or we think it is too hard so we choose to stay as we are. Join us for today’s sermon.

“Buried”

“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”(1 Peter 1:23)

As society looks in a mirror what do they see? When we read the God’s Word the image in the mirror should change, if it does not, we need to check again. If we look around the world today, most people just see themselves. Social media is a good example. Do we sometimes try to handle situations ourselves without asking our Lord for help? When we rely on self, self can get us into trouble and sometimes that trouble seems overpowering. Or maybe it was something that was out of our control and it brings us to a dark place, so dark we feel like we are alone in our suffering. It can feel so overwhelming that we feel like we are buried alive. There is a Hope—His name is Jesus.

 Depression Can Steal Our Hope

God’s Chisel

(Within this sermon there is a video, based on Ephesians 2:10, that may have several glitches, so I posted the Youtube video called “God’s Chisel” here in case the one in the sermon does not come through well).

December 12, 2020

“The LORD is my light and my salvation: whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid.” (Psalm 27:1)

This sermon takes place during the Pandemic in which suicides and depression increased substantially, however; we are still in a crisis and deal with these issues daily.  One person lost to suicide is one to many. Some may think they are the only ones to suffer depression and others think they can handle it on their own. They may want to keep it to themselves and control the situation themselves. What about Christians? Do we, as Christians, think that somehow the depression we have been dealing with will just go away when we embrace our Lord Jesus Christ? He said, in this world we will have troubles, but He also says be of good cheer for I have overcome the world (John 16:33) and that he will be with us always (Matthew 28:20). In this sermon, we will explore individuals such as Job, a man God calls “a perfect and upright man.” Do you think he suffered depression? You bet and as we will find out others were not helping him either. We will also find out about others in the Bible who suffered bouts of depression and there is one that just may surprise you. Please join us as we explore this important topic. (also see sermon “Uncertainty?” )

“Timely”

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21)

A hurried life! Are there consequences to a hurried life? Our God gives us the very breath we breathe and wakes us up each morning. What do we do with the day he gives us? How many of us rush around and still say there is not enough minutes in the day? Is our clock set with the world? Luke 10:38-42 tells the tale of two sisters, one who was rushing around serving Jesus, but the other was listening to Jesus. When we are busy do we really stop to listen to our Savior? In Matthew 11: 28, Jesus says, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”  He alone can give us the rest we need, because there are times even my brain will not shut down. How about yours?  Join us in this “timely” sermon.

Renew Your Mind

Live streamed February 5th, 2022

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2)

Some individuals have not been the same after COVID. Maybe you have heard the term—brain fog? Some say that this will be a long lasting effect. But truly how does our brain function and what does Paul mean by “be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind”? The human brain is a mystery. Think about all the things we see and do that the brain functions and we only use 10% of it–wow! But how do we renew our mind? The things that are happening around the world today can be stressful and take a toll on us. This is why we need to rely on God. Jesus says He will give us peace even in the midst of the storm (John 14:27). We need to be “transformed” which means in the Greek, Metamorphose, which in turn means  changing into something completely different such as a caterpillar to a butterfly. We need to let the “essence of what the creator planted to come out” (words used from the sermon). Join us as we unpack the meaning of Romans 12:2.

The Joy of Judgment

Live Stream – February 12th, 2022

Thousands upon thousands attended himten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened.” (Daniel 7:10)

How many can say the can hardly wait for judgment? Have you ever been to court before or have seen how the court system works?  When you go to court you are looking forward to the outcome sometimes with great hope or sometimes it is with great dread.  If Jesus came today, what would you be looking forward to in the judgement? Are you fearful or joyful?  We know sometimes in an earthly court, it does not matter if a person is guilty or innocent; it is who has the best argument and that is the one who wins. But our heavenly court is much different. There is joy in judgment when we know the outcome, and we know it can be in our favor (Daniel 7:22). What will we see when we come to the judgement seat in front of God? How can we be prepared? Do you trust Jesus enough to believe He can wash away all our sins, that He can wipe our slate clean? This sermon will touch on the sanctuary service, our High Priest, and how can we win in this heavenly court. Hint: There is only One way

Seeing Is Believing

Live Stream – February 19th, 2022

“And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray Thee, open his eyes that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man: and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:17)

Have you heard the saying, “seeing is believing?” Chances are you have.  But is seeing is believing Biblical? When we go to 2 Kings 6:8-16, the king of Syria warred with Israel. The king was thwarted every time he thought to take Israel. So much so, that he thought he had spies. He was told however that Elisha’s God told him where to go to keep out of the king’s reach. So he sent men to capture Elisha and surrounded Dothan where Elisha was at the time. A panicked servant comes and says “what do we do!?” Would we have reacted any differently? Do we sometimes panic in certain situations totally forgetting that we have a Savior? Many times we do not see Him but He is there all the same. And then there are other times when it can be so bad that He will pull back the curtain and show Himself so that we may believe. The closer you are to Him the more you will see because in the case of our Savoir believing is seeing. Join us as we explore this topic.

“The Last Church on Earth”

“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet” (Revelation 1: 10)

When we are reading Revelation, we must first understand just Who gave it to us. Revelation 1:1 states, “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto Him, to shew unto His servants things which must shortly come to pass; and signified it by His angel unto His servant John:” So this come from God  and His Son Jesus Christ to us. You see, Jesus does not want us to be kept in the dark about what is coming. He wants us to know so we can be prepared. So the question is if there is a last church what does it look like? Join us as we take a look at the seventh and last church which discusses the state of the church and what we need to do  to prepare ourselves for His soon coming.

“Still Small Voice”

“And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, And He said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:9)

Communication is the key to any successful relationship.  In the distant past, communication took a long while, but today, we have communication with the world at our fingertips. Think not? Just post something unusual on social media and see what can happen. Let’s face it; it is information overload which causes stress. But another thing that happens is that we start rushing.  I remember when stationed over sees and using dial up internet, for those of you remember. It was soooo sloooow. And not only the internet, do you ever feel you need to get somewhere and it seems you get behind every slow car out there? We are a society of wanting things now. But, do you ever get so caught up in life situations you forget about the One who gives you rest? Does He sometimes need to get your attention? Join us.

“Relevance”

“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.” (1 Corinthians 1:1)

What makes the best teachers? Think back on the teachers you had in the past and what was the common denominator. It was that they cared. Great teachers know how to make things relevant. When Jesus was tested in Matthew 22:32-40 by a lawyer, the question was asked about what the greatest commandment was, and He answered to love God and to love your Neighbor. That’s it in a nut shell. So what makes the greatest teacher—love! But do we know what love really is? If we read 1 Corinthians chapter 13, we should see it is an action word not just a feeling. Join us as we explore the love God has for us, after all God is Love. (1 John 4:16).

“Fear”

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

Fear can make you do things you would never think of doing or keep you from doing thing you know you should do.  Have you ever been in a situation where fear took over?  A fear that was so overwhelming that you couldn’t see a way out? Fear is an effective tool Satan uses to pull you away from God. There are many instances in the Bible telling us “Do not be afraid,” but do we listen to that voice when we are afraid? Where did fear come in? Join us today.

“Overcoming Fear”

““And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”.” (Joshua 24:15)

Have you ever wondered what children are afraid of today as opposed to 30 years ago? In the previous sermon “Fear,” it was discussed how debilitating fear can be and how Satan uses that to drive a wedge between us and God. We also found out that fear was there from the beginning in our first parents. The Bible has many examples of individual’s fears but it has just as many (if not more) examples of overcoming fear. Join us as we discuss the death of Moses and the fear of Joshua when he was tasked to lead the people when Moses died. How did God help him out of his fear? And is the same promise to help us out of our fears ours, also?

Prince of Peace

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6)

Is there peace in the world today? Can you even find it? Or let me put it this way, do you want peace in your life today? We know that the physical peace of the world is something that is out of our grasp, but the internal peace that comes from our Lord is a different matter altogether (John 14:25-27). For “unto us a Son is given.” Jesus is our Gift from the Father to us. He came to give us the peace that is beyond understanding (Philippians 4:6). When we go back to the beginning, the garden was a peaceful and wonderful place until sin entered the world. The things of this world can get in the way of that peace that Jesus gifted to us. In 1 Kings 19:9-12, we read that Elijah was not listening to God, so God got his attention. God was showing him that the distractions of this world get in the way, and sometimes God needs to get our attention to remind us He is not in the world. He is the still small voice that is right next to you (Psalm 46:10). Please join us as we explore our gift—Jesus and His gift to us—peace.

Born Again

“There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: the same came to Jesus by night, and said to Him, Rabbi, we know that Thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that Thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of heaven” (John 3:1-3)

There was Pharisee that asked a question of Jesus that is found in Matthew 19:16-26. “And, behold, one came and said unto Him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?” Jesus’ answer to Nicodemus is the most important event to happen in us or we will not make it. When you read the story of Nicodemus, a person who is a “learned man”, he knows the law and scripture better than most, yet, he still does not understand. Do we sometimes think, well, I have been reading the scripture daily so I should be good to go, right? In the case of the second Pharisee’s question and the man’s response, sometimes the answer is not necessarily.  Here this man has been keeping the commandments from the time he was little and had become wealthy, but when Jesus said “sell all that you have and give to the poor (meaning loving your neighbor) and follow me” the man would not give up his stuff. His stuff was more important to him and became his idol. So we may ask ourselves, have I been born again? Each conversion experience is personal. Saul/Paul’s experience on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3-6) was dramatically different then the Ethiopian’s experience with Phillip (Act 8:32-39). We think of Peter, who had been with Jesus three and half years and still Jesus stated “…when thou art converted…” before going to the cross. After the Jesus died and rose again, Peter understood. Jesus gave up everything and died for us so that we may live through His sacrifice.

When we feel the change, we find that Jesus is Everything! And one thing we can be sure of is that when we feel that “born again” change in us, the love we have for God and others expands so much, that you want to let everyone know what He has done and continues to do in your life so that they may experience it themselves!

Forwards Backwards

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14)

Do we look at the past and wonder what it would have been like had you made another choice?  Or maybe something from our past keeps getting in the way of our moving forward? Or maybe it is a matter of letting go of the hurts we suffered at the hands of another. How do we get past that?  If we are honest with ourselves, we have all played the “what if” game.  What if I had done this or that how pleasant it would be now? I would not be going through (fill in the blank).  But think on this. Life is not easy. There always are and always will be challenges. When Adam and Eve chose to believe Satan over God, we had sin enter the world. We might as well call them challenges because Satan will use any means to challenge your belief in God. It is what he does. But we know that God is stronger, and when we set our eyes on our Savior, Jesus Christ, we CAN move forward. There will still be struggles because as Jesus said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me you might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer: I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). When we live in the past doubts, discontentment or depression can arise, and we can feel helpless or frozen in our footsteps. This is just where the enemy wants us. Do we trust in Jesus to bring us through anything that comes our way? Join us as we examine this issue of the past overwhelming the chance to move forward in our lives.

Who Am I?

“And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11)

What is the value of things or people in your lives? In other words, what “matters” in your life? Mattering is dependent on others and the sense of mattering can save lives. Sometimes we feel we are not qualified, we have nothing to offer, or that we just exist and do not matter. But that is a worldly perception that the devil uses to tell ourselves that we do not matter or if we are in a toxic home situation, others may tell us over and over that may cause us to believe the lie. But God is wonderful and He sees us differently. He claims each of us as His, “But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine” (Isaiah 43:1). He values us and we matter to Him. In this sermon, we will share stories and discuss three elements of our sense of mattering:  Attention—do you ever feel that God does not even notice you? Importance—if God notices us, are we important to Him? Are we significant to Him?  Dependence—Does God need us? These are questions that other individuals in the Bible had, also, and as we will find out, yes—God sees and knows us but most of all He loves us!

Service

“A new commandment I give you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if ye have love one to another.” (John 13:34-35)

Why is this a “new” commandment? Didn’t Jesus’ first commandment say that after loving God with your whole being (Matthew 22:37), state in Matthew 22:39, “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”? So what is different and how can we achieve it? In Matthew 15:8 Jesus said, when speaking of the Pharisees, “These people draweth near unto Me with their mouth, and honoureth Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.” Perhaps you have met such as these. The love Jesus has for us is profound, and He says to love as He does. Join us as we explore this “new commandment” He has given us.

“And Jesus Said…”

“When Jesus had lifted up Himself, and saw none but the woman, He said unto her, Women where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more.” (John 8:10-11)

What is the number one reason for given for not attending church? Do you know?  We put a preconceived notion on how other members of the church should act and when that expectation is not met, it can drive someone away from church. The thing is we are all sinners. Church is a place for the sinner to come and learn about Jesus and what He has done for us. Jesus will do the changing in us and sometimes it takes time.  Luke 5:31-32 says. “And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician: but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” So what does this mean? When we come to church, we can see that others are struggling just as we sometimes do.  Church is a place to know we are not alone in our struggle, and best of all we find our Jesus knows that we struggle. He knows because He has been there and overcame (Hebrews 4:15).  And through His mighty hand we can, too!

“Ginomai”

“Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.” (Revelation 3:2)

Do we sometimes try to rearrange or reality to fit our perceptions? Jesus had quite a message for the Church of Sardis that is relevant today. Sardis was a very prosperous and notable city, but pride and arrogance were some to of the traits that this city embraced. This must have bled into the church.  Romans 12: 2 states, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” So did this church conform to the world? Let’s step back to the first verse of Revelation 3, which says that God knew their works and “that thou hast a name that that thou livest, and art dead.”  So how can a church be alive and dead at the same time? Join us as we explore this question, what ginomai means to us, and how we can overcome and “prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

“Mary, Did You Know?”

“Then Mary said to the angel, How can this be, since I do not know a man? And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 1:34-37)

Do we ever have questions that we would like to have answers to someday? We know that our mothers seem to know things we children thought they wouldn’t. Did Mary know just how special her baby was going to be to the world? Maybe she did. We, however, are uncertain what the future holds for our children.  For instance, Exodus has a special baby with a death sentence hanging over his head because Pharaoh order all Hebrew children two years old and below be killed. His mother prayed and took action not knowing the future for her son. Other mothers in the Bible, also, had children they did not realize would become great men.  One thing that is important to note is that each one had a strong foundation from the start of their lives. Proverbs 22:6 states, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Sometimes it may seem that we have strayed far, but the lessons we learned from the beginning do stay with us and that is why I am with Jesus today. We invite you to join us for today’s sermon.

“Clean?”

“Jesus saith unto Him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.” (John 13:10)

Have you ever noticed that we all have different ideas about what clean really means, especially when it comes to who will be coming to your house for dinner as oppose to everyday clean? What is Jesus trying to tell Peter in the above verse?  If we go back a ways we find Jesus, their Master, is about to was the disciple’s feet and Peter is taken aback by this act because his Master should not be washing his feet. Jesus said to Peter that he may not know what He was doing for him now but he soon would (John 13:7).  Jesus also said not all were clean because there was one who would betray Him, and Jesus still washed his feet. So when did Peter finally understand Jesus’s meaning when He said he soon would understand? It was quite a journey for Peter when he finally realized Jesus’ meaning and it brought him to true repentance as opposed to the other who betrayed Him for money. Join us in this exploration.

“A Memorial of Remembrance”

“When Jesus understood it, He said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? For she hath wrought a good work upon Me. For ye have the poor always with you; but Me ye have not always. For in that she hath poor this ointment on My body, she did it for My burial. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath dove, be told for a memorial of her.” (Matthew 26:10-13)

What is the meaning of memorial?  It is something to remind individuals of a person or event.  We have a three day weekend coming up. I have used the term holiday, but as used that term to describe this weekend it didn’t feel right. This upcoming Memorial Day is about people and events to remember. These are people who made the ultimate sacrifice, so that we could enjoy the freedoms we have today. A somber day indeed but one of celebration, also, in that they did not die in vain. As we look at the above verse, we not only see that it was a memorial of the woman as Jesus said,  but also, of the somber but wonderful upcoming event that was to take place on the cross. The cross Jesus would choose to die on for all of us, so that we may live through Him. In Luke 4:18, Jesus describes what was here to do early in His ministry, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor, He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering the sight of the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” As we journey through this sermon, we will explore a few instances in the Bible that use the word “remember.”  But what does “remember” mean? It means to be able to bring to one’s mind an awareness of (someone or something that one has seen, known, or experienced in the past)—A memorial, perhaps? Winston Churchill stated, “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” In this case, our Scriptures show us what is important, and choosing not to “remember” could be the difference between everlasting life or eternal destruction.

“Overcoming Peter”

“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed in humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of grace, who hath called us unto His eternal glory by Jesus Christ, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 5:5-11)

The verse above has many things packed into it for us to understand. Proverbs 11:2 states, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”  Pride, it is a problem we all have to some extent or another. Think not? We all have emotions and sometimes those emotions get us into trouble. What about emotions such as fear. This is a very strong emotion. Fear can make us do things we may never even thought doing or keep us from things we should be doing. What about discontentment, depression, anxiety—all of them are strong emotions? We all may suffer these at times but we don’t need to let it overwhelm us. Why? Because Jesus says, He will never leave us and he wants us to rely on Him totally. When emotions get the best of us, are we saying “Jesus I know you are with me, but I can handle this myself without You.” Ah, there it is—pride. “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).  We need to be wary because the devil can use these emotions to separate us from the only One who can strengthen, establish, and settle us. Join us as we discover a little more about Peter’s struggles and the hope we have through the struggles we go through, also.

“Overcoming Peter-Part 2”

In part one of “Overcoming Peter,” we learned about how fear, discontentment, discouragement, anxiety and other forms of emotion can lead to pride. When we think about it, it’s all about who we trust. Are we relying on ourselves because we are the only ones who know about us—“who could possibly understand our circumstances?” Jesus says to cast all care upon Him (1 Peter 5:7). He wants all things, big and little, because He is there for us. Perhaps you have heard someone say “I don’t want to be around people because I am going through some things right now.”  Can self-imposed isolation be a form of pride? We don’t want to ask for help because we are the only ones who can handle what we are feeling or going through, right? Sounds like pride doesn’t it? We need the humility that Perter finally learned from Jesus, because when we look at 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:,” we realize that just as the lion hunts those who are weak, vulnerable, and, yes, even alone, the devil does, too, and he has been practicing thousands of years perfecting his hunting technique. We need Jesus! We need to know Him to trust Him.

“Peter Restored”

“So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me more than these? He saith unto Him, Yea Lord:  Thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed My lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me? He saith unto Him, Yes Lord; Thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed My sheep.  He saith unto him a third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me? Peter was grieved because He said unto him the third time Lovest thou Me? And he said unto Him, Lord, Thou knowest all things; Thou knowest that I love Thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed My Sheep.” (John 21:15-17)

This sermon is a continuation of some other sermons that came before this one. If you have not seen the sermons: “Service”, “Clean?”, “Overcoming Peter”, and “Overcoming Peter—Part 2”, I invite you to do so now. In the latter two sermons, Peter realized how prideful he was in wanting to do everything himself. If we know Peter, he was always the one to say something or take action before thinking about it. It is what leads him to deny Jesus three times, and when he realizes what he had done; he wept bitterly, the Scripture points out. Do you think Peter may have felt that he could never be forgiven or that Jesus would never see him in the same light again? Do we sometimes think we have fallen too far to ever be forgiven? We may have felt that way before realizing just what Jesus did for us; He wants us back no matter what we have done. He wants our heart! Join us now as we complete the story of Peter and the restoring power of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

“The Mission—The Message

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

What is the message that we are to share to others? Before Jesus left His disciples, He gave them a mission. They were to teach all nations. We have the same mission to share what we know to be the wonderful truth—to share the gospel. And just what is the gospel we are sharing? It is Jesus of course. Luke 2:10-11 says, “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good news of great joy, which shall be for all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”  The gospel is the good news of Jesus, our Savior, who was to come in the form of man (John 1:14), live and be tempted as we are (Matthew 4:1-11), give His life (Matthew 27:35-60), and rise again so that we may be saved (Matthew 28:2-6). This is the good news that we are to share with all nations! Join us as we explore this mission and message we have for others.

Chains of Freedom

“But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.” (Romans 6:22)

God was a part of this country from the beginning. Our pledge of allegiance honors our God although some want that stricken from the pledge. There is something wrong, can you feel it? What does freedom mean? To some, it is the freedom to do what even we feel is right. We must be careful. Proverbs 14:12 states, “There is a way which seemeth right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” When we go back to the beginning we see that Eve thought the same. She believed the devil when he said that God was holding back something from her.  She and Adam had everything they needed and more, but the devil’s insulation is that God did not want her eyes opened to see good and evil (Genesis 3:5). Did Eve perceive a lack of freedom? Join us as we explore this subject of freedom and what it should mean to us.

“Entitled”

“There are not found that return to give glory to God, save this stranger” (Luke 17:18)

When we look around the world today, we are a generation of wanting things now, but also a generation for wanting things we feel we are entitled to have. In this presentation, you will find some surprising answers to surveys that were requested from different individuals. What is the cause of us feeling entitled to things? Is this a new concept? Well, if we go to the beginning, what was the lie told to Eve? Genesis 3:4-5 reads, “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes will be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” In other words, Satan is saying she was not entitled to this information. We know the story from there. Join us as we move forward in time to others that felt “entitled” and how dangerous that can be for us.

“Blessed and Sanctified

“Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made: and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And God blessed the seventh day. And sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made.” (Genesis 2:1-3)

Perhaps you have heard about the debate regarding which day is the correct day? What day did God set aside for us? Many want to argue about it but in the end even if the argument is won, if they have no belief, what good does it do? We need to understand why we keep the seventh day holy and not another. We need to ask ourselves if we are keeping the seventh day holy in order to achieve something or do we keep it because we believe God? Many verses in the Bible tell us just how important the day is to God and if it is important to God shouldn’t it also be important to us? Please join us as we discover how much the importance of a day—the Sabbath day should be in our lives.
